The ATC physical remand of Taqi Raza Khan has been extended for three days in a case
involving police vehicles allegedly burned during the May 9 violence. An anti-terrorism court
(ATC) approved the police request after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader completed his
previous 19-day physical remand. The case relates to an incident reported at Afshan Chowk in
Lahore.
ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced the decision after police presented Taqi Raza Khan
before the court. The investigating officer requested additional time to question the accused and
recover his mobile phone. Police told the court that recovering the device was necessary to
continue the investigation and examine possible evidence connected to the case.
Defence lawyers Bilal Mustafa and Yousaf Wain represented Taqi Raza Khan during the
hearing. They opposed the police request and challenged his arrest in the case. The lawyers
argued that their client had been arrested in connection with the incident after approximately
three years.
The defence also informed the court that Taqi Raza Khan had already received interim bail in a
separate case involving the Jinnah House attack. The lawyers raised this point while opposing
further police custody. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved an
additional three-day physical remand.
The case was registered at Sarwar Road Police Station under First Information Report (FIR) No.
103/23. It concerns allegations related to the burning of police vehicles at Afshan Chowk during
the May 9 violence. Investigators are continuing their work to collect evidence and examine the
allegations against the PTI leader.
During the newly approved remand period, police will have additional time to question the
accused and attempt to recover his mobile phone. Further Political developments will depend on
the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
The case remains part of the legal proceedings connected to the May 9 incidents. The
allegations must be examined through the judicial process, and the accused is entitled to due
process under the law.
