Pakistan Hockey League Soft-Launched to Revive National Sport

The Pakistan Hockey League launch marks a new effort to revive Pakistan’s national sport
and restore its position among the world’s leading hockey nations. The league was introduced
during a special ceremony on Wednesday, attended by government officials, legendary
Olympians, sports leaders and private sector representatives. The initiative aims to attract
investment and create better opportunities for Pakistani hockey players.

Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, attended
the ceremony as the chief guest. Famous hockey players including Shehnaz Sheikh, Shahbaz
Ahmed Senior, Hassan Sardar, Tahir Zaman, Mansoor Ahmed Senior and Khwaja Junaid also
attended the event. Their participation reflected the hockey community’s shared commitment to
improving the sport and supporting young players.

During the ceremony, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment
to supporting hockey and encouraging emerging talent. He welcomed the initiative and
appreciated efforts to bring government representatives, private businesses and sports officials
together. He expressed hope that the league would help improve Pakistan’s hockey
performance and provide more opportunities for future players.

Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani highlighted the importance of
professional management and long-term planning. He said the federation would focus on
improving sports facilities, attracting corporate investment and providing better support to
players. He also stressed that cooperation between the government and private sector would be
important for the sport’s sustainable development.

Salman Danish, owner of MediaCast and a partner in the league, said the company would work
with the Pakistan Hockey Federation to attract sponsors and business investment. The
organisers plan to bring international hockey stars and Pakistani players together while
developing a sustainable financial model for the competition.

The Pakistan Hockey League is a joint initiative of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and
MediaCast. It aims to improve competition standards, strengthen domestic hockey and
encourage young people to take greater interest in the national sport. The organisers hope this
initiative will help rebuild Pakistan’s hockey structure and create a stronger future for local
players.
