The breast cancer awareness seminar in Lahore was organised by Fatima Memorial Hospital
(FMH) to encourage early diagnosis and timely medical care. The event took place on
Wednesday and focused on helping women understand breast cancer and the importance of
regular health check-ups. Hospital representatives highlighted that early detection can improve
treatment options and help patients receive medical attention at the right time.

According to a hospital spokesperson, the event was arranged by the Department of Surgery
under the leadership of Professor Dr. Tayyab Abbas. Doctors, students and healthcare
professionals attended the programme to support awareness about women’s health. Dr. Farhan
Feroz, Professor Dr. Tausief Fatima and Dr. Sania Ahmad were also among those who
participated in the event.

During the seminar, Professor Dr. Javed Shakir, Dr. Ifham Shahid and Professor Dr. Shahzad
Alam spoke about the importance of early diagnosis and regular medical examinations. They
encouraged women to contact qualified healthcare professionals if they notice unusual changes
or have concerns about their health. The speakers explained that timely medical advice can
help doctors assess symptoms and recommend appropriate care.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Pakistan recorded an
estimated 43,721 new breast cancer cases and 20,039 deaths in 2024. These figures highlight
the serious impact of the disease and the need to improve public understanding of breast
cancer. Awareness activities can help women recognise the importance of medical check-ups
and seek professional advice when needed.

Following the seminar, participants joined a health awareness walk to share information about
breast cancer with the wider community. They encouraged women to take their health seriously
and avoid delaying medical consultations when unusual symptoms appear.
FMH reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women’s health through education and awareness
campaigns. The hospital also highlighted the importance of promoting early detection and timely
treatment to improve health outcomes.
