LAHORE: Lahore recorded an AQI of 174 in the morning as very slow winds kept polluted air
from moving freely. Wind speeds were around 0 to 3 km/h, but officials expected them to
increase after 11am, which could improve air circulation and bring some relief from pollution.

At the same time, authorities have stepped up efforts to control local sources of smog. Over the
past 24 hours, teams inspected 37 brick kilns and 11 industrial units, while action was taken
against sites found violating environmental rules. One FIR was registered and a Rs500,000 fine
was imposed.

Officials also checked 34 barbecue and commercial cooking locations and inspected seven
plastic-related sites. A total of 212 warning notices were issued for burning waste, tyres,
rubber and plastic. Authorities also issued 421 notices over encroachments and illegal
structures, sprayed water on 977 kilometres of roads, and planted 76 trees as part of efforts to
reduce dust and pollution.

The Punjab government is continuing its anti-smog campaign under the directions of Chief
Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Drone teams, night squads and monitoring teams are being
used to identify pollution sources and take action. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum
Aurangzeb thanked Lahore residents for supporting efforts to improve the city’s air quality.
