Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has called for greater international promotion of
Pakistan’s traditional products, cultural heritage, and skilled workforce. He said Pakistan has
strong potential to increase exports, attract business opportunities, and strengthen its position in
the global market.
He shared these views while addressing the opening ceremony of the New York Chamber of
Small Business Corporation office on Friday. Gilani congratulated the management on this
initiative and appreciated its efforts to build stronger business connections between Pakistan
and international markets.
During his speech, Gilani highlighted several traditional Pakistani products that deserve more
international recognition. These include embroidery, blue pottery, ceramics, khussa, Sindhi
Ajrak, and the traditional Ajrak of the Saraiki region. He said these products represent
Pakistan’s cultural identity and can create valuable export opportunities.
He also highlighted the potential of Ajrak-based clothing, including shirts. He noted that other
countries have successfully promoted their traditional fabrics in international markets, and
Pakistan can follow a similar approach.
Gilani also discussed the historical and cultural importance of Multan. He described it as one of
the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, with a history of more than 5,000 years. He
compared its historical importance with Damascus and said that Multan’s blue pottery, ceramics,
and traditional crafts deserve greater international attention.
The Senate chairman also stressed the need to develop a skilled workforce that meets
international job market requirements. He said Pakistan’s young people have great potential to
work in foreign countries, especially in technical, professional, and software-related fields. He
added that proper training and international exposure could help young Pakistanis find better
employment opportunities abroad.
He further highlighted the important role of overseas Pakistanis and business associations in
promoting the country’s products and trade. He said Pakistani communities in the United States
have built strong professional networks that can help introduce local products to international
buyers.
Gilani also appreciated the work of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North
America (APPNA). He recognized its contributions to healthcare, medical education, research,
and humanitarian services.
He also mentioned his connection with the Global Muslim Business Forum, based in Kuala
Lumpur. He expressed confidence that stronger cooperation with international business
organizations could create new opportunities for Pakistan.
Gilani said Pakistan’s cultural richness, business potential, and achievements should receive
greater international recognition. He added that the country wants to move forward through
peace, development, and cooperation with other nations.
He expressed hope that continued cooperation between business communities, international
organizations, and overseas Pakistanis would help improve Pakistan’s global image and create
more opportunities for trade, investment, and employment.
