The Pakistan Switzerland bilateral cooperation agenda was discussed during a meeting
between Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Swiss Ambassador Stephane Ray
in Lahore on October 17, 2026. Both sides explored ways to improve cooperation in climate
change, trade, education and investment.

Senior Political Adviser Usama Qaiser Khan also attended the meeting at Governor House. The
participants discussed opportunities to strengthen relations and develop partnerships that could
benefit both countries.

Governor Saleem Haider Khan said Pakistan faces serious problems because of climate
change despite contributing very little to global emissions. He explained that floods and damage
to crops have created difficulties for communities across the country. He expressed hope that
Switzerland would support Pakistan in dealing with these environmental challenges.

The governor also highlighted the importance of educational and scientific cooperation. He said
exchange programmes for Pakistani and Swiss students and scientists could encourage
research and create valuable learning opportunities. Such programmes could also help people
from both countries understand each other’s experiences and ideas.

During the meeting, the governor thanked Swiss companies for investing in Pakistan. He said
more opportunities were available for investment in information technology and other sectors.
He added that stronger business connections could support economic growth and create new
opportunities for companies.

Swiss Ambassador Stephane Ray described Pakistan as an important country because of its
geographical location. He also praised the hospitality of Pakistani people and expressed
Switzerland’s interest in developing closer relations with Pakistan.

The ambassador said Switzerland wanted to expand cooperation with Pakistan in information
technology and trade. He also discussed exchanges between Pakistani and Swiss scientists to
support research and knowledge sharing.

Both sides emphasised the need for stronger public connections and continued cooperation.
Their discussions covered environmental protection, education, science and business
development.

The meeting provided an opportunity to explore areas of shared interest between the two
countries. Continued cooperation could support climate action, encourage investment and
create opportunities for students, researchers and businesses in Pakistan and Switzerland.
