The Amir Khusro stage play brought the poet’s life, spiritual journey and cultural legacy to
audiences in Islamabad. The production was presented at the Pakistan National Council of the
Arts and received a response from visitors.
Dolphin Communication presented the play, with writer Arshad Chahal and director Asma Butt
leading the creative team. The audience praised the actors for their performances, meaningful
dialogues and engaging presentation throughout the production.
The play explored Amir Khusro’s poetry, Sufi thoughts, musical contributions and strong
connection with Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Amir Khusro was a respected poet and Sufi figure
who contributed greatly to Persian and Hindavi literary traditions.
His mystical poetry continues to hold an important place in Qawwali and musical traditions
across the region. The production presented these cultural elements through theatre, helping
audiences connect with an important figure from history.
Asma Butt said Amir Khusro’s story was presented through collective efforts involving writers,
performers and other creative professionals. She explained that her interest in the subject
became stronger after visiting Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya’s shrine during a visit to India.
At that time, she was presenting her earlier production Shah Hussain Madholal and experienced
Khusro’s mystical poetry. That experience encouraged her to bring Khusro’s life, poetry and
artistic contribution to the stage for audiences.
Asma Butt also said introducing historical and cultural personalities to younger generations was
an important responsibility for artists. The production continued Dolphin Communication’s efforts
to present the region’s Sufi, literary and cultural heritage through theatre.
The successful response showed how stage performances can make historical stories
meaningful and accessible for modern audiences. The standing ovation reflected the audience’s
appreciation for the performances and the cultural message shared through the play.
The event also offered younger viewers a chance to discover Amir Khusro’s influence on
literature, music and spiritual culture.
