The Ushna and Mahin tennis victory has created a historic moment for Pakistan at the World
Tennis Women’s Futures tournament.Ushna Suhail and Mahin Aftab Qureshi became the first
Pakistani pair to win a doubles match at the tournament.The achievement came during the W15
Islamabad World Tennis Women’s Futures Championships 2026 at the PTF Tennis Complex in
Islamabad.The Pakistani players defeated compatriot Romisa Malik and South Africa’s Nissa
Finnigan 6-0, 6-0 in their opening doubles match.
Their straight sets victory helped Ushna and Mahin reach the second round of the international
competition in Islamabad.The win also gave the Pakistani players valuable WTA ranking points
and created an important milestone for women’s tennis.Pakistan Tennis Federation President
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi congratulated both players for their impressive performance and historic
achievement in Islamabad.
PTF Secretary General Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail and the federation management also praised the
players for their success.They expressed hope that the achievement would encourage more
young women in Pakistan to take up tennis professionally.The first leg of the championship
features 30 players from 17 countries, including Pakistan and several other international tennis
nations.France’s Astrid Cirotte, who is ranked 624th in the world, is the top seed in the
tournament.Other Pakistani players participating include Meheq Khokhar, Romaisa Malik and
Hajra Sohail in different tournament events.
In the singles competition, Mahin Aftab Qureshi lost to South Africa’s Wozuko Mdlulwa after a
closely fought match.Romisa Malik, Meheq Khokhar and Hajra Sohail also lost their respective
singles matches during the opening round.
Despite those results, the doubles victory provided an important positive moment for Pakistan’s
women’s tennis development.
The championship matches will continue Thursday at 10am, giving players another opportunity
to progress and earn valuable ranking points.
