A fire broke out at the Boys’ Hostel of Children’s Hospital Lahore on Thursday, causing
smoke to spread through part of the building. The incident happened on the fifth floor, inside
Room No. 511, according to the preliminary report.

The initial report said that an old non-inverter air conditioner in the room produced a spark
and caught fire. The flames then reached the curtains placed underneath the air conditioner.
Some media reports described the incident as being linked to a short circuit in the AC power
connection, but the preliminary report specifically mentioned the old AC and a spark.

The hostel staff acted quickly after noticing the fire. They managed to control the flames within
around three to five minutes. Because the staff were able to deal with the situation quickly,
Rescue 1122 was not required, according to the preliminary report.

A significant amount of smoke was produced during the incident. The smoke caused concern
among people in the area, but the fire was controlled before it could spread further. The quick
response by the hostel staff helped limit the situation and prevent major damage.

Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported. Professor Masood Sadiq, Vice Chancellor
of the University of Child Health Sciences, said that there was no loss of life or injury. He also
said that, apart from the old air conditioner, no other items were damaged in the incident. The
Children’s Hospital administration officially lists Professor Masood Sadiq as Vice Chancellor.

The incident highlights the importance of regularly checking old electrical equipment, especially
air conditioners and their power connections in residential areas inside hospital premises.
However, the exact technical cause should be considered based on the final findings of any
detailed investigation.

For now, hospital officials have reported that the situation is under control and that there were
no casualties. The incident is being reported as a limited fire that was handled quickly by hostel
staff.
