immediate notice and ordered a high-level inquiry. The incident happened at Kot Lakhpat Jail on
October 1, 2026, where prisoners became involved in a serious confrontation. The injured
prisoners were taken to General Hospital in Lahore for medical treatment. Officials said the
inquiry will examine the circumstances that led to the fight and determine what happened inside
the jail. The Home Secretary formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident. The
committee includes DIG Prisons Lahore Mohsin Rafiq, DIG Prisons Headquarters Shaukat
Feroze, and DIG Prisons Inspection Naveed Rauf. The committee has started collecting
information from injured prisoners and jail staff. Officials will carefully review the available
information before determining responsibility for the incident.
The Punjab Home Secretary also directed authorities to provide the injured prisoners with the
best possible medical care. IG Prisons Mian Salik Jalal and Additional Secretary Prisons Roman
Borana reached General Hospital to monitor the treatment. According to local reports, the
deceased prisoner was identified as 42-year-old Ashraf, who was serving a sentence in a
murder case. Another prisoner, Falak Sher, was injured and remains under medical treatment.
Reports said the confrontation may have started during a dispute connected with the jail kitchen
and meal service. However, the official inquiry will establish the circumstances and responsibility
after examining the evidence. The Punjab Home Department said that anyone found
responsible will face legal action according to the law. The authorities have not yet announced
the final findings of the investigation. The incident has caused concern among families and
people connected with the prisoners. Officials are continuing their investigation while injured
prisoners receive medical care at General Hospital. Further action is expected after the inquiry
committee completes its investigation and submits its findings.
