Europe’s Travel and Tourism Industry Expected to Grow 3.1%  in 2026

Europe travel and tourism growth 2026 is expected to reach 3.1% despite global uncertainty
and economic challenges this year.

The forecast comes from new research released by the World Travel and Tourism Council
during its global summit in Malta.Europe is expected to perform better than global tourism which
is forecast to grow by 2.5% during the year.The latest figures show international visitor spending
in Europe could increase by 5.8% during 2026 across key European destinations.
Leisure travel spending is expected to rise by 3.1% while business travel spending could
increase by 4.2% today.

The figures were announced during the opening day of WTTC’s 26th Global Summit held in
Valletta Malta city this week.

More than 1,000 delegates are attending the summit including over 200 tourism leaders and
government representatives from different countries.

The event is discussing important issues including sustainable tourism growth, accessibility
investment technology connectivity and workforce development across global destinations.
Participants are also considering how tourism can grow while protecting local communities and
improving experiences for visitors around Europe today.Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
is among the speakers alongside Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas and U.S. tourism envoy
Nick Adams.

WTTC Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre said the summit brings together leaders who are helping
shape the future of travel globally today.He praised Malta for supporting the tourism sector and
providing a suitable location for important international discussions about industry development.
WTTC President Gloria Guevara said governments must support seamless travel, stronger
connections, skilled workers and sustainable investment for future growth.The council said
travel and tourism supports around one in ten jobs across Europe making tourism important
economically and socially.

The new forecast gives Europe an encouraging tourism outlook while industry leaders work
together to build sustainable growth and opportunity.
