The LESCO electricity theft operation in Hanjarwal has uncovered suspected illegal
electricity connections at three locations in Lahore. The late-night operation was conducted with
police assistance to identify power theft and stop the unauthorised use of electricity.
The operation was supervised by Superintending Engineer Central Sana Muhammad Gujjar and
Executive Engineer Iqbal Town Hafiz Ahmed Bilal. Sub-Divisional Officer Rana Town Mian
Hamza Ishaq led the inspection alongside police officers and LESCO staff.
According to the LESCO spokesperson, officials discovered direct electricity connections at a
plaza and 13 residential quarters at the first location. These connections were allegedly being
used to obtain electricity without an authorised supply arrangement.
At the second location, the inspection team found suspected electricity theft in 10 residential
quarters. Officials also checked a third location where another 12 quarters were reportedly
receiving electricity through direct connections.
After identifying the suspected violations, LESCO disconnected the electricity supply at all three
locations. The action aimed to stop unauthorised power use and reduce financial losses for the
electricity distribution company.
Officials confirmed that four First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered at Hanjarwal Police
Station against people allegedly involved in electricity theft. Further legal proceedings will take
place under the applicable laws.
LESCO’s Chief Executive Officer stated that the company would continue taking action against
electricity theft without discrimination. The company aims to identify illegal connections and
ensure that consumers use electricity through authorised meters and approved supply systems.
Electricity theft can cause financial losses for power companies and place additional pressure
on the electricity distribution network. Regular inspections help identify violations and encourage
consumers to follow electricity regulations.
The latest operation reflects LESCO’s ongoing efforts to address suspected power theft in
Lahore. Officials are continuing their enforcement activities and encouraging consumers to use
electricity legally and report suspected illegal connections through appropriate channels.
