China and Pakistan to Hold Joint Military Exercise in Xinjiang

The China Pakistan joint military exercise 2026 will take place in Korla, located in China’s
Xinjiang region, during mid to late October. The exercise is named Karakoram-2026 and aims to
strengthen military cooperation between both countries while improving their ability to respond
to terrorist threats. The planned exercise reflects continued defence cooperation between
Pakistan and its international partners.

Colonel Chen Xi, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, announced the
planned exercise on Saturday. He explained that soldiers from both countries would participate
in joint training focused on counter-terrorism operations in high-altitude areas. The exercise will
help military personnel learn to coordinate their efforts during challenging security situations.
The training programme will include drone operations and exercises involving moving targets
and shooting practice. Soldiers will also receive long-range sniper training as part of the planned
activities. These exercises are designed to improve military skills and help personnel practise
responding to different operational challenges.

Both armies will also participate in joint command exercises and practical military drills during
the training period. These activities will help military leaders practise planning and coordinating
operations together. The exercise will provide an opportunity for soldiers from both countries to
share experience and learn from each other’s training methods.

According to the announcement, Karakoram-2026 will be the first joint army training exercise
between China and Pakistan. The initiative is intended to strengthen communication and
cooperation between their armed forces. It will also help both countries improve their ability to
respond jointly to terrorist threats.

The exercise reflects continued defence cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Joint training can help military personnel understand each other’s procedures and improve
coordination during security operations. Both sides expect the activities to support closer
cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.

The exercise is scheduled for mid to late October 2026 in Korla, Xinjiang. However, the
announcement did not provide exact dates or the number of soldiers expected to participate.
Further details may be released by the relevant defence authorities as the exercise approaches.
