Egypt tourism growth is gaining momentum as the country welcomed 14.4 million international
visitors during the first nine months of 2026. This represents a four percent increase compared
with the same period in 2025. Egypt now aims to welcome 30 million tourists every year by
2030, creating new opportunities for local businesses and communities.
The latest figures were shared after the Egyptian Tourism Authority attended the World Travel
and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Malta. Egypt received 19 million international
visitors in 2025, while its travel and tourism industry contributed $34.4 billion to the national
economy. These results show how tourism supports economic activity and helps businesses
grow.
To welcome more travellers, Egypt is investing in hotels and other important facilities. Around
35,000 hotel rooms are currently being developed, including accommodation for visitors seeking
luxury experiences. The country also plans to double its existing hotel capacity of approximately
240,000 rooms. These improvements could provide more choices for travellers and support
future tourism demand.
Egypt is also expanding airport facilities to make international travel easier. Development plans
cover Cairo International Airport, El-Alamein, Sphinx, and Marsa Matrouh. Better airport
services could help more visitors reach different destinations and enjoy smoother journeys
throughout the country.
Egypt attracts tourists through its ancient history, beautiful coastlines, and natural landscapes.
Visitors can explore historic sites along the Nile Valley, enjoy the Red Sea and Mediterranean
beaches, or discover the Western Desert. The Grand Egyptian Museum also offers travellers an
opportunity to learn more about Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
With these developments, Egypt hopes to strengthen its position as a popular destination for
international travellers. More hotel rooms, improved airports, and better visitor facilities could
benefit tourism businesses and local communities. If the plans succeed, the country will move
closer to its ambitious goal of welcoming 30 million international visitors annually by 2030.
