Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict notice of alleged financial
irregularities in the Khanewal beautification project. She has ordered an investigation into the
matter and directed officials to take action against those responsible.
According to an official handout, the Chief Minister has directed authorities to include the former
Deputy Commissioner of Khanewal in the investigation. The inquiry will examine the advance
payments made to the contractor responsible for the project.
The beautification project was planned for Akbar Bazaar in Khanewal. However, the work
reportedly faced delays and was not completed on time. The contractor allegedly received
advance payments but later fled without completing the assigned work.
Maryam Nawaz has also ordered the immediate arrest of the contractor. She directed the
relevant authorities to recover the government funds involved in the project.
The investigation will also examine how the advance payments were approved and why the
project remained incomplete. The role of the officials responsible for supervising the work will
also come under review.
The Chief Minister’s decision aims to identify those responsible for the alleged financial
irregularities. It also highlights the importance of transparency in government development
projects.
Public development projects are designed to improve facilities and make cities better for
residents. However, delays and misuse of public funds can affect these goals. Such issues can
also create financial losses for the government.
The ordered investigation is expected to help establish the facts behind the Khanewal
beautification project. Authorities will also work to recover the funds and take action according to
the findings of the inquiry.
