The Punjab government has introduced a new system for collecting monthly cleaning fees from
homes and businesses in urban areas. The new system will help organize the collection of
sanitation fees across cities in Punjab.

The Suthra Punjab Authority and the Excise and Taxation Department have signed a Service
Level Agreement for the new system. During the 2026–27 financial year, the Excise
Department will collect cleaning fees along with property tax. It will also conduct house-to-house
surveys, prepare cleaning bills, and handle complaints and corrections related to the bills.

The monthly fee will depend on the size of the property. Residential properties will pay Rs. 300
for up to 5 marla, Rs. 500 for 5–10 marla, Rs. 1,000 for 10–20 marla, Rs. 2,000 for 20–40
marla, and Rs. 5,000 for properties above 40 marla. Commercial units will pay Rs. 500, Rs.
1,000, or Rs. 3,000 per month, depending on their size.

The decision to collect the cleaning fee through the Excise Department was approved during the
36th Provincial Cabinet Committee meeting in August. The department will receive a 1%
service charge for collecting the fees. The system is intended to establish a uniform cleaning
fee structure across urban areas of Punjab.
