The University of Gujrat (UoG) organised a two-day architecture workshop to help students
understand how geometry is used in building design. The University of Gujrat architecture
workshop took place at Hafiz Hayat Campus and focused on the practical use of geometric
shapes and patterns.

According to a university spokesperson, the Department of Architecture arranged the workshop
to improve students’ design skills. The sessions explained the connection between mathematics
and geometry and their importance in architecture.

The workshop also explored geometric patterns found in Islamic and Mughal architecture.
Experts discussed how different cultures have used shapes and mathematical designs to create
beautiful buildings and structures.

Architects Hassan Taimoor Khan Mumtaz and Hafiz Muhammad Bilal Ashraf participated as
expert trainers. They delivered lectures and demonstrated how geometric principles can be
applied to architectural projects.

The experts explained the use of different shapes and patterns in building designs. They
discussed architectural forms and building fronts along with arches and square and triangular
grids. These examples helped students understand how geometry influences both the
appearance and structure of buildings.

Students also took part in practical activities during the workshop. They used masking tape to
create geometric patterns on studio floors. They also developed designs on glass surfaces with
the help of paper.

These hands-on exercises allowed students to explore creative ideas and understand the
relationship between traditional craftsmanship and modern architectural design. The activities
also helped them learn how simple geometric shapes can be combined to create detailed
patterns.

Dr Ayesha Anwar, Chairperson of the Department of Architecture, hosted the workshop.
Professor Muhammad Asif Sharif, Director of FADFA, welcomed the guest experts and
appreciated their participation in the educational activity.

Students from the 2022 batch and Spring 2026 attended the workshop along with faculty
members. Their participation provided an opportunity to learn from experienced architects and
improve their understanding of design principles.

During the closing session, Dr Ayesha Anwar thanked the experts and participants for their
contributions. She highlighted that geometry plays an important role in architecture and helps
designers create balanced and meaningful structures.

After the workshop, the expert architects visited the shrine of Hafiz Hayat. They examined the
traditional geometric patterns displayed in its baradari to understand the architectural details of
the historic structure.

The workshop provided students with valuable knowledge about geometric design. It also
encouraged them to explore traditional architectural styles and apply these ideas to modern
building projects.
