The Gulab Devi Hospital incident has drawn attention after a dispute between a female doctor
and a patient’s family in Lahore. Police detained two women following the argument, which
reportedly took place last night in the hospital’s Dr. Ameer-ud-Din Ward.
According to the initial report, the disagreement began while a video involving Lady Doctor
Zahra was being recorded. The situation became tense, prompting hospital administration to
intervene and refer the matter to the police for further action.
Hospital Administrator Dr. Ahsan Hafeez reportedly handed over three women involved in the
dispute to the police. Authorities later detained two women and initiated preventive legal
proceedings against them under Sections 107 and 151. The women were subsequently
presented before the court.
The incident occurred during a difficult time for the family of 38-year-old Zulfiqar Ali, who
belonged to Shahdara. He had been admitted to the hospital approximately seven days earlier
for treatment of a lung disease.
According to the hospital administration, Zulfiqar Ali needed ventilator support because of his
medical condition. However, the ventilator was reportedly not available in time, and his health
deteriorated while he waited for the necessary equipment.
The patient’s relatives protested over the delay in providing the ventilator. Following the protest
and the subsequent dispute, the hospital administration arranged ventilator support for him.
Unfortunately, Zulfiqar Ali could not survive despite receiving the ventilator after the delay. The
hospital administration confirmed his death, leaving his family members heartbroken. Some
relatives reportedly fainted after learning the tragic news.
Meanwhile, a heavy police presence remained outside the hospital’s intensive care unit to
maintain order and manage the situation.
The incident has raised concerns about timely medical care and communication between
hospital staff and patients’ families. The reported circumstances surrounding the ventilator delay
and the dispute require further examination by the relevant authorities.
Timely access to emergency equipment can be critical for seriously ill patients. A clear review of
the incident may help establish what happened and address the concerns raised by the patient’s
family.
