The University of Gujarat (UoG) has signed a five-year agreement with Brazil’s Federal
University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) to promote academic cooperation and joint research.
The agreement will create new opportunities for students and teachers from both universities.
According to a university spokesperson, the agreement was signed at a ceremony held at Hafiz
Hayat Campus. UoG Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt and Professor Dr Itabajara da Silva Vaz
Junior from the Brazilian university signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The ceremony was held under the leadership of UoG Vice Chancellor Professor Dr
Zahoor-ul-Haq. The agreement will support joint research projects and academic activities
between the two institutions.
Both universities will also work together on research publications and faculty exchange
programmes. These activities will allow teachers and researchers to share their knowledge and
learn from each other’s experiences.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zahoor-ul-Haq said international
university partnerships play an important role in improving research and education. He added
that such agreements help students develop scientific thinking and improve research skills.
A seminar titled “Tick Protection Vaccines: Outcomes, Progress and Perspectives” was also
organized during the event. The seminar focused on new developments in vaccines that can
protect livestock from ticks and related diseases.
Professor Dr Itabajara da Silva Vaz Junior discussed the latest progress in anti-tick vaccines. He
explained that these vaccines could help protect animals from tick attacks and diseases caused
by them.
He also said vaccines could provide an alternative to chemical sprays and dips. These methods
are commonly used to control ticks in livestock.
Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Professor Dr Adil
Rashid introduced the guest speaker. Faculty members and department heads also attended
the seminar along with university students.
The agreement is an important step towards strengthening international educational links. It is
expected to support research activities and provide new learning opportunities for both
universities.
