Pakistan aims to develop one million artificial intelligence (AI) professionals by 2030 to
strengthen its digital economy. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal
announced this target during the Pakistan-Russia IT Collaboration meeting on Thursday.
The minister called for stronger technology cooperation between Pakistan and Russia. He said
both countries should work together through joint ventures and business partnerships. Their
cooperation could create new opportunities in international technology markets.

Ahsan Iqbal said recent business meetings arranged by the Pakistan Software Export Board
(PSEB) with P@SHA had shown positive results. Five Russian companies held 16 meetings
with 11 Pakistani companies. He said these discussions should now lead to business
agreements and practical projects.

The minister explained that digital development is one of the five main pillars of Pakistan’s
National Economic Transformation Plan. The government aims to transform Pakistan into a
trillion-dollar economy by 2035.

He said Pakistan and Russia could cooperate in artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
Other important areas include cybersecurity and industrial software. Both countries could also
work on digital supply chains and secure trade systems.

Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan produces more than 75,000 graduates every year. The National AI
Policy aims to develop one million AI professionals by 2030. He also announced that seven new
AI centres would support research and skills development. These centres would connect
universities with startups and industries.

He highlighted Pakistan’s digital progress through NADRA’s identity system and RAAST
payment service. RAAST processed 646 million transactions in one quarter.
The minister also discussed language barriers between the two countries. He said Pakistan was
promoting Russian-language education through Allama Iqbal Open University and the Higher
Education Commission.

Ahsan Iqbal stressed that both countries should focus on practical business opportunities. He
said successful cooperation should create trade and employment opportunities.

He expressed hope that technology would play a bigger role in strengthening Pakistan-Russia
relations. He said technology should now help shape the future of their partnership.
