Pakistan has launched a new programme to strengthen Pakistan pharmaceutical industry
exports by helping local companies improve product quality and meet international standards.
The National Productivity Organization (NPO) introduced the initiative in cooperation with
industry groups under the Ministry of Industries and Production. The programme aims to help
pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers improve their production systems and reach
more international markets.
The initiative is being carried out with the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association
(PPMA) and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). It runs from October
20 to 30 under the Asian Productivity Organization’s Technical Expert Service programme.
The programme focuses on international manufacturing and safety standards. These include
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S)
principles and requirements set by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Following these standards can help companies improve product quality and meet the
requirements of international regulators. This can also prepare Pakistani manufacturers to enter
markets with strict rules for pharmaceutical products.
International expert Chuan Yao from Singapore is providing technical guidance to participating
companies. He has more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and is
helping manufacturers identify weaknesses and find practical solutions.
The programme covers production methods, quality checks, record keeping, product testing and
regulatory procedures. It also helps companies prepare for inspections and understand the
steps needed to meet international requirements.
On October 26, an industry seminar was held at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and
Industry. Additional Secretary for Industries and Production Asif Saeed Khan Lughmani stressed
the need to improve quality standards and follow international regulations.
RCCI President Nosherwan Khalil highlighted the importance of technical training and
cooperation among businesses. NPO Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry
also reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to improving productivity and industrial growth.
PPMA Vice Chairman Usman Shaukat called for better manufacturing practices and stronger
quality management systems. RCCI Group Leader Sohail Altaf also stressed that cooperation
could help businesses solve problems and discover new opportunities.
Further seminars are planned in Lahore on October 28 and Karachi on October 30. These
meetings will share expert knowledge and practical advice with more pharmaceutical
companies.
The initiative supports Pakistan’s Pharmaceuticals Export Strategy 2023–2027 and the URAAN
Pakistan economic transformation plan. It aims to improve local manufacturing and help
Pakistani pharmaceutical companies compete more effectively in global markets.
