Punjab Assembly Speaker Raises Concerns Over Kasur Electricity Problems

The Kasur electricity crisis has raised serious concerns after Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik
Muhammad Ahmad Khan questioned recent LESCO actions. He expressed concern over long
power outages, incorrect bills and complaints involving electricity theft cases in Kasur. The
speaker said some recent actions in Kasur should be reviewed because citizens had raised
serious complaints. He said residents in several areas were facing hours of electricity cuts and
growing difficulties in their daily lives. Flood-affected communities were already facing
hardships, while prolonged power outages were making their situation even more difficult. The
speaker also discussed complaints about alleged home raids and harassment of women during
recent operations. He said every complaint should be examined carefully and citizens should
receive protection under the law.

Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said electricity theft should be dealt with according to law and
proper evidence. However, he said one person’s alleged violation should not result in
punishment for an entire village. He also raised concerns about incorrect or excessive bills and
alleged demands for money to correct them. The speaker urged LESCO officers to visit affected
areas and personally understand the problems faced by residents. He said officials should not
depend only on reports prepared inside offices without checking conditions themselves. The
speaker confirmed that he had discussed Kasur’s electricity complaints with Federal Energy
Minister Owais Leghari. He said he would continue raising these concerns before relevant
authorities and other government forums. He also questioned prolonged loadshedding being
linked to line losses and recovery of electricity dues. According to his statements, consumers
deserve transparent procedures and proper explanations when action is taken against them.
The speaker said police should carefully examine video evidence when investigating electricity
theft cases. If nominated people were absent from the location, their involvement should be
properly reviewed before further action. The allegations and concerns raised by the speaker
require investigation by relevant authorities before responsibility can be established. The
development has highlighted wider concerns about reliable electricity, fair billing and lawful
treatment of consumers in Kasur.
