The LCCI and NAB anti-corruption cooperation initiative aims to promote transparency and
encourage investment in Pakistan. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Lahore
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) have agreed to strengthen cooperation against
corruption and improve the business environment.

The decision was reached during a meeting between NAB Director Muhammad Akmal and
LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar in Lahore on Monday. LCCI Vice President Chaudhry
Khadim Hussain also attended the meeting.

The participants discussed ways to improve coordination and address corruption-related
complaints from traders and industrialists. They stressed that government departments should
follow transparent procedures and allow businesses to operate without unnecessary delays or
pressure.

Both institutions agreed that corruption increases business costs and discourages investment.
They explained that unfair practices can delay business decisions and reduce confidence in
public institutions.

LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar said the business community plays an important role in
economic development and job creation. He explained that businesses need clear regulations
and fair government procedures to expand operations and contribute to national exports.
He added that transparent governance could encourage local and foreign investors to invest
with greater confidence. When businesses receive fair treatment and complaints are handled
properly, companies can grow and create more employment opportunities.

Ali Hussam Asghar stressed the importance of providing businesspeople with an accessible
system for reporting alleged corruption. He said traders should be able to contact relevant NAB
authorities when their complaints fall within the bureau’s legal responsibilities.

He also proposed appointing NAB representatives or establishing official contact arrangements
in relevant government departments. This could improve communication and help businesses
report corruption-related concerns through the proper channels.

During the meeting, both sides agreed in principle to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU). The proposed agreement would establish a framework for continued cooperation and
strengthen their institutional partnership.

The institutions also agreed to organise awareness programmes for businesspeople. These
programmes will highlight honesty and transparency while encouraging compliance with
applicable laws and regulations.

The initiative aims to build trust between businesses and public institutions. Stronger
accountability and effective complaint handling could help create a fairer business environment
and support sustainable economic growth in Pakistan.
