The LCCI Tollinton Market clash has raised concerns among business leaders in Lahore after
a confrontation between traders and government officials. The Lahore Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (LCCI) has urged both sides to resolve the dispute through peaceful discussions.
The chamber believes that dialogue can reduce tensions and help protect businesses from
unnecessary disruption.
LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar, Senior Vice President Sardar Usman Ghani and Vice
President Khadim Hussain Chaudhry expressed their concerns during an emergency meeting
held at the chamber on Friday. Former LCCI President Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman and several
executive committee members also attended the meeting. They discussed the incident and
emphasized the need for better communication between traders and government departments.
During the meeting, LCCI leaders said violence should never be used to settle business
disputes. They stressed that government officials must be respected and the law must be
followed. At the same time, they said traders should have a fair opportunity to explain their
concerns and receive appropriate responses from the authorities.
According to the report, the dispute involving Punjab Food Authority officials concerned only a
few shopkeepers. However, the entire Tollinton Market was sealed. LCCI leaders warned that
such decisions could affect other traders who were not directly involved in the disagreement.
They called for fair action and proper consultation before decisions that could disrupt business
activities. Better consultation with LCCI and stakeholders can help address business concerns
and support constructive dialogue.
The chamber also highlighted the important role traders play in supporting the economy.
Businesses help create employment opportunities and contribute to government revenue. LCCI
leaders encouraged traders to raise complaints through lawful and peaceful channels. They also
emphasized that government officials should be able to perform their duties safely and
professionally.
The LCCI leadership urged the relevant authorities and Tollinton Market representatives to
begin negotiations as soon as possible. Both sides were advised to remain calm and avoid
further confrontation. The chamber also recommended regular meetings between government
departments and business associations to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
LCCI said cooperation and mutual respect are essential for a healthy business environment. It
believes timely consultation can prevent misunderstandings and help government departments
implement policies more effectively. The chamber called for a practical solution that protects
traders’ interests while ensuring that officials can carry out their responsibilities according to the
law.
