A letter sent to the Metropolitan Police in 2019 containing allegations about Thomas Markle,
father of Meghan Markle, was reportedly written by his former wife, Roslyn Loveless. The matter
has attracted attention following recent reports about allegations involving Markle.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, confirmed on Friday that she had previously received
information about disturbing allegations concerning her estranged father. She expressed deep
concern and said her thoughts were with any children who might have been harmed.
On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving a letter relating to Thomas Markle in
2019. The letter was also shared with Prince Harry and Meghan at that time.
Reports have alleged that images involving child sexual abuse were discovered at Markle’s
former home in the Philippines. However, Markle has denied the allegations and rejected claims
that he possessed such material.
Roslyn Loveless, who has since died, was the mother of Meghan’s half-siblings, Samantha
Markle and Thomas Markle Jr. She divorced Thomas Markle in 1975 before he married
Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in 1979.
Meghan was born in 1981 and is the only daughter of Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland. Her
relationship with her father has been distant for several years.
In a statement released on Friday, Meghan said she was deeply distressed by the allegations.
She also explained why she had largely ended contact with her father and did not allow him to
have contact with her children.
Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly told a newspaper that he discovered
images and videos involving child abuse at his father’s former home in the Philippines. He also
apologised to Meghan for previously supporting their father during their family dispute.
Reports indicate that Thomas Markle Jr. contacted the United States Federal Bureau of
Investigation in July regarding the alleged material. The FBI has confirmed that it is aware of the
allegations.
Authorities in the Philippines have also confirmed an investigation into the matter. Their
anti-human trafficking and child sexual exploitation task force is reportedly examining the
allegations.
Thomas Markle acknowledged in an interview that he had paid for sex during previous visits to
the Philippines. However, he denied having sexual relations with underage girls and denied
possessing child abuse images.
The Metropolitan Police stated that it had not shared the contents of the 2019 letter with other
law enforcement agencies. The force is now reviewing how it handled the matter.
Thomas Markle moved to the Philippines last year after suffering several strokes. He is
reportedly receiving rehabilitation in Florida following the amputation of his leg and is learning to
walk again.
The allegations remain under investigation and have not been established as proven facts.
Authorities have not announced a final outcome in the case.
