More than 600,000 children received polio drops during the first two days of the ongoing
anti-polio campaign in Multan. No parents refused to vaccinate their children during this period.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Polio Uzma Kardar shared these details on
Tuesday.
During her visit to Multan, Uzma Kardar addressed a press briefing with Deputy Commissioner
Dr Faisal Saleem. She said that all relevant government departments were working together
under a clear plan to eliminate polio from the country.
She explained that religious scholars were also being involved in the campaign. Their role is to
spread awareness about polio vaccination and encourage parents to cooperate with vaccination
teams.
Uzma Kardar said that polio workers were receiving the necessary facilities and support to
perform their duties. Special arrangements had also been made to reach children who might be
missed during the regular vaccination drive.
She added that vaccination teams were not only giving polio drops to children but also keeping
proper records. These records help officials track the number of vaccinated children and identify
those who still need protection.
The special assistant said Punjab had made important progress towards its polio eradication
goals. She added that government departments were continuing their efforts to make Pakistan
polio-free by 2027.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Faisal Saleem also discussed the steps being taken to stop the
spread of poliovirus. He said all departments were working together to make the campaign
successful. He also warned that negligence or poor performance would not be tolerated.
The deputy commissioner further said that negative environmental samples had been reported
from Multan. However, the vaccination campaign would continue until the poliovirus was
completely eliminated.
The campaign aims to protect every child from polio through timely vaccination and effective
monitoring. Officials have stressed that parents should support vaccination teams and ensure
their children receive polio drops.
