PFA Seals Two Water Plants and Food Units During Lahore Inspection

The Punjab Food Authority food safety crackdown has led to action against several
businesses during inspections in different areas of Lahore. Officials inspected 26 food points
and production units in Iqbal Town, Canal Road, Shah Alam Market, Shahpur Kanjran and
nearby areas. The operation was carried out under the direction of PFA Director General Raja
Mansoor Ahmad to check food quality and safety.

During the operation, officials sealed two water plants, two sweets and cake units and a dairy
production unit. Heavy fines were also imposed on 21 food businesses for violating food safety
requirements. The dairy unit was sealed after its butter sample failed laboratory testing,
according to the PFA. The authority also imposed a fine on the unit.

Two water plants were sealed after laboratory testing found their water samples below required
standards. Harmful bacteria were detected in the water, raising concerns about safety for
consumers. PFA teams also found poor sanitation conditions at some inspected premises. Food
items were reportedly placed directly on the floor, raising concerns about hygiene and safe
handling practices.

Officials also found that some businesses did not have mandatory records and essential
documents. The PFA said action was taken against businesses that had failed to follow
instructions previously issued by the authority. Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad said
enforcement operations against food fraud would continue under a zero tolerance policy across
Punjab.

He stressed that access to safe food is a basic right of every citizen. He also said eliminating
adulteration and fraudulent practices is an important responsibility of the Punjab Food Authority.
The authority has asked citizens to support its efforts by reporting unsafe food and suspected
adulteration through the PFA helpline 1223.

The latest operation shows continued efforts to improve food safety and protect consumers in
Lahore. The authority said inspections and enforcement actions will continue against
businesses that fail to meet required standards. Consumers are encouraged to remain careful
about food quality and report concerns when necessary.
