Pakistan Embassy in Tehran Marks Kashmir Black Day and Urges UN Action

The Pakistan Embassy in Tehran observed Kashmir Black Day on Tuesday to show support for
Kashmiris and their right to self-determination. The ceremony highlighted Pakistan’s continued
commitment to supporting the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The event took place at Pakistan House in Tehran and attracted academics, university
representatives and members of Iranian society. The participants gathered to express solidarity
with Kashmiris and call for a peaceful solution to the longstanding dispute.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, explained the historical importance of
October 27, 1947. On this day, Indian troops entered Srinagar and began a period of suffering
for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ambassador also discussed the role of the United Nations in the Kashmir dispute. He said
India brought the issue before the UN Security Council on January 1, 1948. On April 21, 1948,
the council adopted Resolution 47, which called for a free and fair vote under UN supervision to
determine the region’s future.

However, Ambassador Siddiqui said the relevant UN resolutions have still not been
implemented. He urged the international community to encourage India to follow these
resolutions and allow Kashmiris to decide their political future according to their wishes.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing moral, political and diplomatic support to the
Kashmiri people. He also stressed that international law must be respected and the rights of
people should not be ignored for political interests.

Speakers from several Iranian universities also called for a peaceful and lasting solution to the
dispute. They said any settlement must reflect the wishes of Kashmiris. They also recalled the
support expressed by the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for the Kashmir
cause.

The ceremony included a documentary about the difficulties faced by Kashmiris and a photo
exhibition showing their continued struggle for basic rights. An Iranian poet recited a poem
expressing solidarity with the Kashmiri people and their search for justice and dignity.
Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar were also read during the event.

The ceremony ended with a renewed call for international attention to the Kashmir dispute.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to seeking a peaceful solution based on relevant UN
resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
