The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi is planning to introduce a modern
water management system with support from South Korean consultants. The project aims
to reduce water wastage and improve water distribution across the city.
WASA is working with Korean water experts from K-Water to improve the existing water
supply network. The proposed system will help officials find pipeline leakages and monitor
water use more effectively.
A meeting was recently held between WASA officials and K-Water consultants. Both sides
discussed the establishment of District Metered Areas (DMAs). Under this plan, different
areas of Rawalpindi will be divided into separate water supply zones.
These zones will help officials monitor how much water enters each area. They will also
help measure household consumption and identify water losses. This system is expected to
make water supply management more organised.
The proposed project will use modern technology and special water flow meters. These
tools will help identify leakage points and control water pressure. They will also allow WASA
to improve the performance of its existing pipeline network.
The plan also includes pilot DMA zones in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed. These pilot areas will help
officials test the system and monitor water distribution more closely. The main goal is to
provide households with a more reliable water supply.
This initiative is connected to the wider DREAMS project. The project focuses on improving
Rawalpindi’s water supply infrastructure. It also includes plans to improve water
transmission and increase available water sources. Existing distribution facilities will also be
upgraded.
Rawalpindi is facing growing pressure on its water resources because of population growth
and increasing demand. Water losses and pipeline leakages create further challenges for
the city.
The new monitoring system is expected to reduce non-revenue water. This means less
water will be lost before reaching paying consumers. It could also help WASA improve its
services and use available water resources more carefully.
The cooperation with South Korean consultants is expected to provide technical knowledge
and modern solutions. Through this initiative, WASA aims to make water management more
efficient and improve supply services for Rawalpindi residents.
