Police have arrested two people for allegedly torturing a widow and cutting off her hair in an
incident reported on Monday. The suspects also allegedly threatened to kill the woman and
force her out of her home.
According to a police spokesperson, the arrested suspects have been identified as Nageena
and her husband Khurram. Nageena is the victim’s sister-in-law.
The victim told police that her in-laws started treating her violently just 40 days after her
husband’s death. She alleged that the suspects physically assaulted her and caused her serious
distress during this difficult period.
She further claimed that the suspects cut off her hair and threatened to kill her. They also
allegedly tried to force her and her three children out of the house.
The incident reportedly took place during her iddat period. This is the waiting period observed
by a Muslim woman after the death of her husband.
The victim contacted the police through Emergency Helpline 15 to seek immediate help. After
receiving her complaint, Lower Mall Police responded quickly and took action against the
suspects.
Police arrested Nageena and Khurram following the complaint. A formal case has also been
registered against both suspects for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The incident has raised concerns about violence against women and the protection of widows.
Women who face domestic violence need timely support and protection from the authorities.
The police have taken initial action by arresting the two suspects. Further legal proceedings will
follow according to the investigation and applicable law.
