DUBAI: Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of Dubai’s Ruler Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 76.
The Dubai Ruler’s Court officially announced his death.

Following his death, Dubai announced 10 days of official mourning across the emirate. During
this period, flags will remain at half-mast as a mark of respect for the late Sheikh Ahmed.

Sheikh Ahmed was a well-known member of Dubai’s ruling family. He served as Deputy
Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and was also closely connected with sports
and horse racing in the UAE.

Funeral prayers were held at Zabeel Grand Mosque in Dubai, where Sheikh Mohammed bin
Rashid and other members of the ruling family attended. Condolences were also expressed by
UAE leaders following his death.
